Outside of the 'normal' nursery day where care and education are integral (or a given), here at Tinies Daycare York we like to go beyond that

Our job is to offer children a wide range of experience to enhance their learning, build their confidence in hopes that they leave us as happy, self-assured individuals. To achieve this, we have a vast extra curriculum programme that all children partake in throughout their journey through nursery.

The children's activities in Yorkshire offered at each of our nursery settings differs, so be sure to look at the individual sites, or ask one of our colleagues for more information about the toddler's/children's activities offered at Tinies York Nursery Setting.

Maths Champion Programme from Our Extra Curricular Kids Activities, Yorkshire

At Tinies Nursery in Yorkshire we have a maths champion within all of our nurseries to ensure that we equip children with a solid maths foundation in early numeracy in preparation for school, enabling them to leave us achieving the best that they can. We want children to be confident and happy to play with numbers and believe that by introducing this from a young age is very important. Our programme starts in the baby room, engaging inquisitive minds through language, song and stories and then through frequent, fun and repetitive activities we develop this as children move through to preschool. Our Maths Champion programme will help you build your child's confidence in maths through structured activities.

Our programme is supported by the NDNA who provides training to our maths champion. Through our Maths Champion and ongoing assessment, we ensure that our maths programme is being delivered by all practitioners consistently to all children in our care. You will see evidence of the programme through your child's learning journey and please feel free to ask any of our team about the current topic.

Library Scheme

Introducing children to books from an early age promotes early literacy and supports the love of language, reading which in turn sparks the imagination and makes them inquisitive. We want children to have the opportunity to share books at home as much as we do at nursery and that's why we have our very own library, allowing parents and children to take books home and share. Through language, books, circle time and audio stories we will share time discovering stories that help children understand the world, relationships and much more to enable them to become expressive and able to talk about their own emotions and feelings.

We hope you take advantage and enjoy borrowing our books with your child. Get in touch with us to Learn more about our children & toddler activities in York.

My Happy Mind

We are committed to helping children flourish and go off to school with the confidence and 'give it a go' attitude. To help children gain greater confidence and persistence to achieve they need a grow mind-set; our role is to offer additional children's activities in York that help children build resilience and not to be fearful when it doesn't go right the first time - try again. Through our Happy Mind programme, we help children build resilience and help children recognise their feelings and emotions and how to control those. All practitioners deliver this programme throughout the nursery day. Please ask our team about how we do this and ask any child in the nursery about Happy Breathing!

Back to Nature

Our Forest School programme quite literally teaches children from the roots up!  In association with the Forest School Learning Initiative, children are taken for weekly sessions, exploring the outside world first hand and of course often getting a little muddy along the way. This programme encapsulates all of our extra-curricular programmes by enhancing language development, hands-on fun, mathematical skill and enjoying the outside world.

Languages

Learning a language from a young age, helps children to develop brain functions and opens up different opportunities for the future. Where possible, we offer a variety of language courses (including French and Spanish).Since the children love these classes, we have included language lessons as a part of our children's activities in York.

Sports

Physical education and movement are important for every child's development. From simply learning to kick or throw a ball to learning to hold a racket, children are learning new skills with each activity. Their muscles develop and research shows that they actually have more ability to concentrate when they participate in physical activity. At Tinies Daycare York we think it's important that children get to try new sporting activities so that they can see what they are good at and what they enjoy.

Music and Movement

Taking the sounds, we hear and turning them into physical movements helps develop creativity and keeps children moving. These interactive classes are fun and silly and entertaining, and the children love them because they get to be themselves. From growing like flowers to catching bubbles these sessions allow their imaginations to blossom.

Multi Media

Learning to use different mediums is paramount for children as they develop in a more technical world. Combining IT skills with other mediums gives the children real world experience. From SMART activities to learning to put images to music, the children learn new skills and develop practical and creative skills - and they have lots of fun!

A wide variety of extra-curricular activities.

Swimming

We offer swimming lessons for children aged 3+ * when they join our sunflowers room. This is normally the term after their third birthday.Beyond being a crucial lifesaving skill swimming is great for health and fitness and a skill which facilitates many other sports and activities.

Children who can swim and are confident in the water can enjoy activities such as diving, synchronised swimming, sailing, and canoeing as they grow older. Children are more confident and are able to have more fun on holiday in the pool and see if they feel they are safe and able to float and swim.

One of the benefits of swimming for children is that it is a cardiovascular activity which enables children's lungs and heart to work faster, and this significantly improves brain and motor function.

Swimming enables children to develop strength and endurance and helps them to develop their personal and physical skills by pushing their own development and challenging their own ideas.

Children are able to better develop their mind and body connection when learning to swim. Children are challenged to use all other body parts and make brain connections to different synapses which aid learning and development in other areas.

Tinies York Nursery works alongside David Lloyd leisure in York using qualified and confident swim coaches to help our children develop and grow.

Tennis

Tinies York Nursery offers tennis lessons to children aged 3+ when they join our sunflowers pre-school room.We play tennis with our preschool children as it builds muscular and bone strength in children and aids coordination skills as well as teaching children discipline and structure of the sport.

Tennis lessons teach the children sportsmanship and how to work well as a team. Tennis is a hugely beneficial aerobic and cardiovascular exercise for children which helps them to build muscles and develop their core strength.

Playing tennis regularly strengthens the bones of young children's players and has been proven to help prevent osteoporosis later on in life. Hence, tennis has been included as one of the children's activities in York curriculum. Children who play tennis learn to constantly judge the timing between the approaching ball and the right point of contact, quickly accelerating their hand-eye coordination even when other activities and sports might have failed to do so.

In turn sports lessons such as swimming and tennis help children to be self-regulated and when children move up to school, they have had the opportunity & the benefit of learning a wide variety of children's activities and new skills during their time at Tinies York Nursery.

Help your child practice their developing maths and reading skills with these fun educational games and activities offered at Tinies Daycare in Yorkshire.

I've just been so impressed with Leah that I thought it was worth letting you know. She's been an amazing keyworker. For me, her biggest positive attribute is that she genuinely cares, gets attached to the child and goes above and beyond her normal duties to make sure the child is okay. Recently Kian was teething (but it wasn't apparent at the time). He was unusually cranky and clingy and she actually rang me to ask if any changes at home had happened recently so that they could do something to help him settle down. I found that very sweet. Another example is when I was a doing pick up, my other child needed the toilet in the toddler room but he had a little accident as he got to the toilet too late. Instead of telling me to clean him up (which has happened once in the preschool room), she was more than happy to help Aarav get changed and even went the extra mile to put plastic bags over his socks so his feet don't get wet as his shoes were wet. She thought to do this herself. I was so impressed at the thoughtfulness. Sorry if it's too much detail, but I wanted to show you what I mean by going above and beyond! I just wanted you to know what a gem you have (although I'm sure you know already!). The rest of the staff are awesome too; I just wanted to give specific feedback for Leah.
